Rainbow Community Health Ministry

Helping Parish Nurses Better Serve Their Congregations Through Health and Faith.

Rainbow Community Health Ministry is a new initiative dedicated to fostering well-being in rural southern Wisconsin communities through collaboration with local faith congregations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people went without critical healthcare services and some even lost trust in the healthcare system as a whole. That said, a 2022 survey conducted by the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) found that the majority of respondents trusted nurses more than any other healthcare professional. Therefore, it became a priority for us to help some of the most vulnerable people living among us by reaching out to them through the people they trust most - nurses.

The primary focus of the Rainbow Community Health Ministry program is to educate, support, and empower faith nurses and other frontline spiritual care workers so they can truly become present for their parishioners.

We invite faith nurses to engage with us through monthly meetings where we seamlessly blend medical and spiritual education. The ultimate goal of this work is to establish a tight-knit community of faith nurses who serve as a reliable support system for one another.

Our Community Resource Liaison, Britanie Peaslee, supports these nurses - most of whom work on a volunteer basis - by completing tasks outside their area of expertise (e.g., conducting needs assessments, facilitating advance care planning conversations) and connecting parishioners with local programs and resources that help meet critical needs.
